🚆 MODALSHIFT Project’s 2nd consortium meeting in Madrid: driving the future of multimodal transport!

Last week, the MODALSHIFT Project consortium gathered in Madrid, hosted by MIL- Madrid Innovation Lab, for our 2nd major milestone. As a Horizon Europe project, 100% funded by the European Commission for 3.5 years, MODALSHIFT is fully aligned with CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency’s objectives to revolutionize passenger and freight transport networks.

Our ambition? To smartly combine transport modes through secure data collection and valorization, while optimizing infrastructure and traffic management via Capacity-as-a-Service. Using digital twins and advanced algorithms, we’re developing innovative governance frameworks & disruptive business models to build a sustainable, decarbonized mobility ecosystem across Europe.

🏗️ 4 key pillars

✔ Capacity-as-a-Service: Synchro modality & dynamic pricing to boost efficiency and reliability in freight and passenger transport
✔ Secure, standardized data: Trust-by-design processes and a multimodal dataspace linking passenger and logistics ecosystems
✔ Next-gen algorithms: Digital twins to optimize real-time planning and control of decarbonized, inclusive transport services
✔ Multilayered traffic management: Tools for network managers, operators, and local authorities

🌍 Real-world impact : 3 use cases

Solutions are being co-developed and tested in Trieste (Italy), Madrid (Spain) & Varna (Bulgaria), with ID4MOBILITY supporting each step—from needs definition to solution testing.

🤝 A strong, diverse consortium

Coordinated by ITA Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón, our 16 partners + 1 associated partner from 7 EU countries and Quebec came together for 2 days of intense collaboration. Workshops, use case presentations, and a visit to Sur station—Europe’s largest multimodal hub—marked this productive gathering.

💡 French Partner spotlights:

Octopize: Anonymizing sensitive data for secure, ethical mobility insights.
Tellae: Enhancing mobility analysis and simulation tools via digital twins.
UTAC: Cybersecurity verification & real/virtual testing at TEQMO.

🎯 Next steps

Stakeholder engagement remains a critical challenge. But the energy, cohesion, and creativity of this consortium prove that sustainable urban logistics is advancing—together & with ambition. Thank you to all partners for their commitment !

And Hey to our member Goupil, we saw his vehicle in Barcelona 😉
